Re: Myers Briggs Virgos
Sun, March 28, 2004 - 1:39 AMWell I'm ESTJ - from a personal growth class August 2002:
To paraphrase John D. Rockefeller’s quote that proceeds the ESTJ profile: I believe I have a philosophy of life and in my mind is a certain guiding principle which is: a need to contribute to life.
When I took the test and read the results, my first thought was to take the test again. I said to myself; the test was wrong or maybe I didn’t answer the questions as honestly as I could. I later did re-take the test and realized that my first choices were true and the results were comparative enough to validate them.
I am described as a ‘guardian’ personality type. Now to skip forward before I really analyze my type: I came across information about how W. Harold Grant, who made a conclusion based on Jung’s theories that the personality types go through developmental phases in a person’s life. I concur with this analysis. He states that we are born into our type and that as we grow and age, certain qualities of our type emerge.
As an adolescent I always asked ‘why’ about anything. I had the curiosity to learn and understand which accelerated my placement early into school, I sought the truth about anything.
Growing up, I had a great amount of personal responsibility; I washed myself, fed myself, got myself home from school, etc and planned my own recreations. I remember keeping in small, but close groups of friends and I did what they did and was usually the organizer of our activities. Throughout my life I have strove to be an active participant if not the leader. A horoscope described my sign as the strategist role rather than the general.
And I am usually the one who is trusted for my honesty and also for my integrity to act upon principle rather emotion. I don’t hesitate to speak openly, usually because I vocalize only facts and make clear what is my own opinion or a suggestion of how something may be improved upon. I was taught good manners and it has always been a large part of my personality. I believe in acting proper in all situations. I don’t talk as an audience and frown when I hear disturbances from others. Even with all my tattoos I will wear a suit or formal attire when it is appropriate and I observe good table etiquette. In a relationship, I treat my mate as a queen and even though I will lavish her as such, I also expect behavior becoming as such. And no matter what, I am the protector of her honor. These traditional, albeit old-fashion values I hold in high regard. In my fellowship I hold the same respect toward the traditions to the principles of how they where established.
The careers presented for my personality are very much what I had already chosen for my education to be geared toward. A teacher is how I have often been in many ways of my life and now I want to actualize it as my profession.
The extraverted, sensing, thinking and judging personality has given me greater introspection to who I am and why I am the way I am. Reflecting on the test, I can’t imagine how other answers could exist and that seems humorous to me because I can see how a type like mine would believe that. Seeing things as realistic as possible, I have no patience for theoretical contemplation when it comes to work or duties. As I project my self as a teacher, I envision my self as organizing my classes on a ‘I show, you do’ model, and since I wish to teach computers it has been my past experience that when a student does not follow directions the outcome becomes chaotic. Computers are logical instruments with no allowance of not observing structure. I idealize that teaching children as early as possible also teaches them critical thinking which will be a fundamental cornerstone to their learning. Also, my type matures into developing its intuition. This is an invaluable asset that I have found in all aspects of living and equally as my type matures I lessen toward giving over to judging and criticism and gain on my ability to intuitively deduce a more sensitive awareness as situations arise.
I feel I could write much more – after all personal analysis is a favorite of mine. I have often been accused of being too critical and I will definitely admit that it is true only because I am more critical of myself then anything else. Understanding my personality type will continue to be a venture on my own. The awareness of this particular examination was very insightful to the comprehension of the qualities and how they interact toward my positive and negative attributes. My strengths of being able to organize, lead and work hard will be the quality assets to me wanting to become a teacher. My traditional standards will aid me in expressing insurance toward proper academia. Loyalty and dependability can secure my position as being a stable employee.
I was pleased all in all with the test. I can’t imagine many being told that they are the judges and traditionalist that they truly are, but it caused me to admit the perception I saw and realize that it is not as negative as I perceived. Yes, I prefer jeans and t-shirts to modern fashion. Yes, I like eggs and toast for breakfast. I have a character defect of judging people on worth toward the greater whole of society. I expect people to tow the line or concede where they are not capable.
A humorous phrase just came to mind that is very befitting to my type – ‘I work hard and play harder’. And remember a question in the test; I like to take long solitary walks.
A ‘guardian’, a ‘supervisor’; these portraits summarize me in all facets of my life. Family, friends, relationships and work I have been the person that organizes and people turn toward when something needs to be entrusted to be done right, even if it isn’t my way, I do whatever is required. I hate that this is starting to sound egocentric; I cannot express adequately what I am trying to really say. I appreciate the knowledge I feel I gained from this test, it was very insightful for me to reaffirm qualities about myself I often was in inner conflict over because I kept seeing the negative aspect rather then the positive.

Fri, April 16, 2004 - 9:37 PMHmm... one of the links you posted seem not to work for me, Meredith. And being a cheap-ass Virgo, I don't want to pay online for something I can get for free. For you other cheapskates out there, this page has a free (shortened) Myers-Briggs test if you want to know what you type is:

Re: Myers Briggs Virgos
Wed, April 15, 2009 - 7:03 AMI took the test years ago and was an INTJ. Last week I decided to take it again and was an ISTP. I swapped Intuitive for Sensing, and Judging for Perceiving.
I like to think I'm growing as a person, and feel better about not being so judgmental as I was in my first 2 decades. -

Re: Myers Briggs Virgos
Wed, April 15, 2009 - 9:26 AMI know I've taken this before and although I can never remember the letters, I do remember the description "title" of Protector. I've always come up that way. ISFJ The percentages may have varied, but it always comes up Protector. I guess cuz I am!
I was amazed when my husband came up as a Fieldmarshall. Then again, maybe that's not a surprise, since I often tease him about being the epitome of a soldier/warrior. We sure don't think alike, but we are great together. He keeps me safe, so I can do my 'protector' thing - mostly for him. ;-) -

Wed, April 15, 2009 - 1:15 PMHere's my results
Custom Keirsey Temperament Report for: Christopher
Your Keirsey Temperament Sorter Results indicates that your personality type is that of the
Artisan
Artisans are the temperament with a natural ability to excel in any of the arts, not only the fine arts such as painting and sculpting, or the performing arts such as music, theater, and dance, but also the athletic, military, political, mechanical, and industrial arts, as well as the "art of the deal" in business.
Artisans are most at home in the real world of solid objects that can be made and manipulated, and of real-life events that can be experienced in the here and now. Artisans have exceptionally keen senses, and love working with their hands. They seem right at home with tools, instruments, and vehicles of all kinds, and their actions are usually aimed at getting them where they want to go, and as quickly as possible. Thus Artisans will strike off boldly down roads that others might consider risky or impossible, doing whatever it takes, rules or no rules, to accomplish their goals. This devil-may-care attitude also gives the Artisans a winning way with people, and they are often irresistibly charming with family, friends, and co-workers.
Artisans want to be where the action is; they seek out adventure and show a constant hunger for pleasure and stimulation. They believe that variety is the spice of life, and that doing things that aren't fun or exciting is a waste of time. Artisans are impulsive, adaptable, competitive, and believe the next throw of the dice will be the lucky one. They can also be generous to a fault, always ready to share with their friends from the bounty of life. Above all, Artisans need to be free to do what they wish, when they wish. They resist being tied or bound or confined or obligated; they would rather not wait, or save, or store, or live for tomorrow. In the Artisan view, today must be enjoyed, for tomorrow may never come.
There are many Artisans, perhaps 30 to 35 percent of the population, which is good, because they create much of the beauty, grace, fun, and excitement the rest of us enjoy in life.
Artisans at Work
Artisans seek to make an impact upon the organizations where they work and upon society at large. Their alertness to current realities, the joy they take in variation, and their tendency to follow their instincts to 'what works' make them good troubleshooters and negotiators, talented performers and craftspeople and excellent leaders in all kinds of emergencies and chaotic situations.
Even at work, your motto could be, "Let me entertain you. Let me make you smile." In fact, bringing playfulness to situations can be one of your greatest contributions on the job. In your ideal job, you have the opportunity to apply your talent for performing and improvising communications so that they appeal to the individuals or groups of people in your environment. Because of your gift for words, your ideal position might include tasks that allow you to apply your communications talent for the good of the organization.
The four types of Artisans are:
Performer (ESFP) |Composer (ISFP)| Promoter (ESTP) | Crafter (ISTP) -
