Oh my.

I don't have much water in my chart - but my rising is water (scorp), so perhaps that water being in a prominent position lends a heaviness.

I don't have a prevalence of water in my chart - which is dominated by earth signs. For an extra earthy Virgo I am highly emotional. Overly, probably. I'm just too sensitive, and that quality outweighs any "cool" aspects of my personality.

I do make an effort to *come off* as cool and detached in order to protect myself, because once people discover my vulnerabilities, anyone who wants to take advantage of me can and easily. I have this detached exterior when not in the company of close, trusted ones... it is probably pretty transparent to a good deal of people, though. I just show too much emotion in my face when I'm not fully guarded, and the amount of effort it requires to maintain it means I falter a lot.

I won't speak for other Virgos about levels of emotions, but I will say that probably most if not all of them that have that aloofness are indeed maintaining a facade for self-defense. With Virgo being a sign that wants to provide service, probably all of them have had this trait taken advantage of at some point, if not repeatedly. And it probably started early on.

My own emotions run pretty deep. At first glance my Sun in earthy Virgo and Moon in earthy Taurus give an impression that I should be pretty "dry," grounded, and stable... but that is simply not true. My emotions are big and consuming, and the painful ones are weighty and create the sensation that I'm drowning in them. I'm also familiar with eruptive and out of control emotions, as well as feelings of elation and ecstasy that I have trouble containing. I'm right on the cusp of Leo, so that fence may provide some firey aspects (though my chart is not strong in fire elements either). I'm also most passionately attracted to lovers who are fire signs, regardless of the fact that relationships with them don't work out well at all.

Hell, even tonight I'm up late delving into forums for equal parts distraction, expression, and a sense of comforting consolation in order to deal with painful emotions. I think I've already spent way too many nights of my life drying snot and tears over a few harsh words to deserve this unemotional, steadfast Virgo stigma. ;)
